Digital Camera Packages

Red Komodo Digital Cinema Camera Package.

The superb Red Komodo provides cinema quality images at a price almost any production can afford.

Featuring Reds Super 35 6k sensor with global shutter the Red Komodo provides superb resolution, Reds unmatched color reproduction and 16 stops of dynamic range without the skew, bent lines or motion artifacts produced by the rolling shutter used in almost all other digital cameras. This is a true digital cinema camera, suitable for shooting features of any budget, short films, high end commercials etc.

The Komodo shoots 6k 16 bit Redcode Raw for the ultimate flexibility in post and superb color grading. If your postproduction workflow is not set up for Redcode Raw the Komodo can also be set to shoot ProRes 4:2:2 10 bit at up to 4k resolution.

The Komodo also includes several LUTs so you can view a color accurate version of your image in both the viewfinder and the on set monitor. In Redcode Raw the LUT you shot with is included as a subcode in the footage and can be easily removed or changed. In ProRes the LUT can be baked into the footage so it will look correct out of camera with no color grading, or you can shoot Log3g10 and grade it later.

The Red Komodo offers 4 selectable bit rates in both Redcode Raw and Pro-Res. At it’s highest bit rate the Komodo shoots at 280 MBps. and this gives you about 1 hr. on a 1TB card. The lower bit rates provide about 1 hr. 34 min. and 2 hrs. 30 min. or 4 hrs and 12 min on a 1TB card. The cameras sensor is a native 17 : 9 aspect ratio. It can be set to shoot 16:9, 17:9, 2:1 and 2.4:1 all in 6k. It can also shoot 5k 17:9 and 4k 16:9 and 2k 17:9 with a sensor crop. Various anamorphic aspect ratios are also supported. Offers slow motion up to 40fps. in 6k, higher at lower resolutions.

The Red Komodo camera package comes with 5 batteries and charger, a Zacuto Gratical HD EVF, Atomos Shinobi 5″ monitor or Panasonic 15″ monitor and the tripods, Cinema Lenses or Nikon Lenses, Filters, Matte Box and Follow Focus listed below.

The Komodo is light enough to use on my DJI RS2 Gimbal for smooth Steadicam like moves at a very affordable price.

The Komodo uses Cfast 2.0 memory cards. I usually have 2-3 TB of memory available if you want to download at the end of the day, or you can provide your own cards or buy them from me.

Audio capabilities are limited on the Komodo. It only has a 1/8″ stereo mini jack mic input (mic level only, no phantom power). This is a Cinema camera after all and Red probably assumed that most users would want to record audio separately, I have a boom mic that works with it but would suggest taking the sound package listed below and or hiring a sound person.

Cinema Lenses

Cinema lenses provide the best possible image quality with the Red Komodo. Superb optics and mechanical engineering allow for beautiful sharp and natural images and smooth focus pulls without the breathing or image shift typical of still photography lenses. Large and easy to read focus marks and longer focus rotation make focus pulling easy and very precise. Comes with their own Matte box, Filters, and Follow Focus.

Cinema lens package includes Red 18mm T1.8, Zeiss Compact Primes 25mm T2.1, 35mm T2.1, 50mm T2.1 and Red 50-150mm T3 Zoom.

Panasonic GH5s

One of 3 versions of Panasonics GH5 cameras, the GH5s is designed especially to shoot 4k video at the highest possible quality for this type of camera. Features a new bigger 10.28 megapixel sensor with the exact number of pixels needed for 4k video without scaling. This allows each pixel to be as large as possible for improved low light performance. Combining this with Dual ISO technology (native ISO of 400 and 2500 or 800 and 5000 in v-log) results in superb low light performance (even better than the GH6). The color science is also improved for more natural color and rolling shutter has been reduced. The sensor is also much less reflective than the GH5 greatly reducing sensor reflections. This camera provides superb results at a very affordable price.

The GH5s shoots Cinema 4k 4096 x 2160 (17:9 aspect ratio) and UHD 4k 3840 x 2160 4:2:2 10 bit at bit rates up to 400Mbps. Also shoots Full HD 1920 x 1080 4:2:2 10 bit up to 200Mbps. All bit rates record to internal SD cards (no external recorder required) and are available as MP4 or MOV files for easy editing. Variable frame rates are available for slow or fast motion. There is no recording time limit at any bit rate and no overheating.

Top mounted audio unit makes audio recording easy and includes 2 XLR audio inputs with manual level controls with switchable phantom power. Camera has 2 card slots and a full sized HDMI output switchable for 4k or 1080p for compatibility with any monitor or streaming system. Also features a high resolution OLED viewfinder and LCD flip out screen, color bars, zebras, waveform monitor and more.

Camera has various gamma settings with adjustable contrast, saturation and hue to create different looks including Cine Like V and Cine Like D. I currently offer 7 different “looks” plus V-log and Hybrid Log Gamma. V-log features a very flat gamma curve and provides the biggest tonal range the camera can offer, about 14 stops. It is ideal for post production color grading and shooting for HDR. Comes with 5 batteries and charger and top mounted audio unit and the lenses and accessories listed below.

Sony A7r2 camera

The Sony A7r2 camera is a high resolution full frame still camera that also shoots beautiful 4k and 1080P video. Featuring Sony’s first back illuminated full frame sensor without a optical low pass filter, this camera provides extremely high resolution still images at 42 megapixels (3×2) or 36 megapixels (16×9). It also has a APSC (super 35 mode) that delivers 18 megapixels (3×2) or 15 megapixels (16×9) if you need smaller files. Shoots JPEG, Compressed Raw, or Uncompressed RAW or both.

On the video side the A7r2 shoots 4k XAVCS video at 24 or 30P at 60 or 100Mbps. It also shoot 1080P XAVCS video at 24P, 30P, 60P or 120P at 50 Mbps. Low light performance is excellent. All video formats can be shot full frame or using the APSC (Super 35) part of the sensor which uses no line skipping or pixel binning for 4k video (recommended). Like the GH5s many different “looks” can be set in camera. Includes Sony’s excellent Cine 4 look which is very natural with excellent highlight and shadow detail right out of the camera, and Slog2 if you want to do your color grading in post. This is the camera I use for most of my still photography and some video too.
